MOIAT (ECAS-EQM)
Understanding the Authority Behind the Standards
The primary regulator of industrial development, product conformance, and quality standards in the United Arab Emirates is the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT). MoIAT, which was founded in July 2020, is essential to bolstering the industrial sector in the United Arab Emirates, simplifying laws, and guaranteeing that goods entering or circulating in the UAE market adhere to strict safety and quality standards.
ECAS – Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme
ECAS: What is it?
MoIAT oversees the obligatory certification procedure known as the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS). It attests to the compliance of regulated goods with UAE technical rules and safety standards, encompassing everything from building materials and automobile parts to electrical gadgets and cosmetics.
Important Points to Remember:
- Validity: ECAS certifications must be renewed annually and have a one-year validity period.
- Goal: In order to legally place regulated products in the UAE market and obtain customs clearance, an ECAS Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is required.
Overview of the Process:
- Visit MoIAT’s e-services portal to register or log in.
- Send in your application together with the necessary paperwork, including certified lab test results and a current trade license.
- Before you receive your ECAS certificate, you must go through review and clearance.
EQM – Emirates Quality Mark
EQM: What is it?
The Emirates Quality Mark (EQM), which emphasizes excellent product quality and reliable production procedures, is either a voluntary or occasionally required program (for example, for beverages). It is given to goods that are produced using a certified Quality Management System (QMS) and satisfy local, regional, or global requirements.
Important Points to Remember:
- Validity: Three years are allotted for the EQM license.
- Benefits: The EQM mark can be used for customs clearance and printed on products when it is issued. For certified items, it can be used in place of ECAS certification.
Method of Assessment:
- Your trade license, lab results, QMS manuals, plant layout, and manufacturing process overview are among the documents you must send through MoIAT’s e-services platform.
- After then, a comprehensive assessment that includes testing, auditing, and inspection is carried out prior to issuing the EQM license.
